Mammoth Milestone Reached

14 October 2010

The Salvation Army’s award winning “40:20” ReUse Organisation has reached another milestone in its 6 year history. This week saw it undertake its 10,000th collection of furniture and other items in the Perth & Kinross area. This equates to around 730 tonnes of items collected and reused that would otherwise have gone to landfill. In return, as well as being available to anyone and everyone for their furniture needs, we are pleased to be able to self-fund discounts for people referred to us by local Social Welfare Providers which has totalled around £71,000 over the last 6 years.

The donor on this occasion was Mrs Anderson from Bridge of Earn who was donating a mattress that she no longer needed. Current project manager Daniel Rous presented Mrs Anderson with a certificate and flowers to celebrate this milestone. Mrs Anderson said “I’ve given often to your project so this is wonderful to be recognised in this way. The flowers are beautiful. I’m just happy to support what you are doing.” Also present were one of the projects collection teams (Driver, Alan Robertson and Future Jobs Fund employee, Sam Wells) together with the new manager of “40:20”, Jim Robertson who will take over the reins of this project next week.

Mr Rous, who officially leaves at the end of October after seeing the project from birth to its current status as a nationally recognised force for good in ReUsing furniture and delivering employability and volunteering services, said “whilst I am sad to be moving on from this great project, it is fitting that I leave it at such a milestone. I also know that this project will continue to grow and am convinced that Jim Robertson is the right person to take them on further.”

The project is based on the North Muirton Industrial Estate of Perth and is open Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 3pm. More information can be found at http://www.safurniture.org.uk

6th Anniversary Media

30 June 2010

As part of our anniversary celebrations, we are very grateful to the local media for their continued support.  As such, you can hear our manager, Daniel Rous, live on Perth FM (listen online at www.perthfm.co.uk) at around 10.25am on Thursday 1 July.  We’ll podcast the recording on this blog as soon as we get the files.  Also, Tay FM (listen online at www.tayfm.co.uk) are carrying out prerecorded interviews with staff which will be used in their news bulletins all day on Friday 2 July.

Also, at our celebratory event, photographers from the Perthshire Advertiser and The Courier will be with us to take pictures of the event, along with our own photographer too.  We’ll upload those as soon as possible too.

Without local support from the community and the media, we would not be where we are today so, again, a huge thankyou to everyone.
